Last summer I went to the wonderful country of Rwanda in Africa. It is a very small hilly country but with a lot to see when it comes to attractions. Rwanda has done much over the past decade and a half to recover from its violent history that was characterized by the 1994 Rwanda Genocide. Today, Rwanda is a stable country and is rapidly growing economically. Over the past decade, Rwanda has positioned itself among the front destinations to be visited by tourists. Today Rwanda is the favorite destination for gorilla tours and the ultimate country to host your conference or convention.
Why Visit Rwanda
Because of the country’s beauty is has especially grown in terms of tourism. The lush mountains and vibrant plains are home to a variety of wildlife, making Rwanda a prime destination for safaris.The country has three amazing national parks that protect a wide range of flora and fauna. These protected areas are a must visit given the unique treasures that the country holds. Here are the must visit places in Rwanda that you should include in your itinerary;
Volcanoes National Park
Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is home to the world’s largest number of endangered gorillas. It is actually one of the the only three countries in Africa where these magnificent creatures can still be found. The country is also famous for its range of other types of wildlife. Located in northern Rwanda, this is the ultimate home to the endangered mountain gorillas that live on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains. A gorilla trek in the park is an amazing experience that you will undertake on foot through the bamboo forests. Upon meeting a habituated gorila family of mountain gorillas, you have up to one hour to watch these primates do their daily chores. Given that your visit can distort their daily chores, your being in the company of the mountain gorillas in their courtyard is limited to only one hour.
Akagera National Park
Safaris can be taken through places like Akagera National park where there are elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and more. Within this savanna national park in Eastern Rwanda, you will have the most amazing time ever of enjoying a true African safari through the savanna grasslands. I was able to do so much while I was there I also got to see a lot of cool things too. From the comfort of a safari vehicle, you will be able to see various animals that include rhinos, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and elephants and among others
Nyungwe Forest National Park
The park is popular for chimpanzees that call it its home. For USD90 you can secure a chimpanzee tracking permit and go on a nature walk to meet a habituated family of our great cousins. Another expedition in the park is a canopy walk that is rewarding with the view of the green forest from an elevated point! Nyungwe is the only national park in East Africa, where you can enjoy a canopy walk.
Gishwati Mukura National Park
Another amazing home to the wild chimpanzees in Rwanda.
While in Rwanda I was also able to go on many safaris such as wildlife tour, birding tour, cultural tour and primate tour. I was there for fourteen days so I was also able to do a safari day tour where you can see everything you would want to see in Africa. I would recommend this trip to anyone; it is great for all ages. Everyone will have just a ton of fun. There is so much to do and see while in Rwanda.
